Prof. Ningbo Gao and Dr. Cui Quan from Xi’an Jiaotong University are visiting the University of Hull. They will carry out research work experimentally about co-pyrolysis of biomass and plastics. In addition, the collaborated research topics will also include the pyrolysis/gasification of sewage sludge waste, oily sludge. Both visitors will return to China at the end of August of 2017.
Japhet Oladipo and Amal Al-Rahbi from the University of Leeds, UK, visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China for five weeks from October to December 2016. During the first week laboratory inductions and orientation were undertaken. Commencing from week two, experimental work began. Using a two stage fixed bed reactor different molar ratios of cerium and iron were used for the steam reforming of cellulose as a representative fraction of biomass to produce hydrogen and syngas. Pure cerium and pure iron were also used for the steam reforming of cellulose. The results were used to help compare the hydrogen and syngas yield with the different molar ratios prepared. The effect of different preparation method for the cerium-iron catalyst on the hydrogen and syngas yield were also investigated. XRD was used for the characterisation of both the fresh and reacted catalyst.
They were joined by Dr Attila Egedy from the University of Pannonia, Hungary from November-December 2016. Dr Egedy was involved in catalytic pyrolysis, modelling and simulation studies.
