Ella Blanquet visited the University of Sydney

Ella Blanquet (seated centre) from the University of Leeds recently visited the University of Sydney, Australia to gain knowledge related to the synthesis of novel zeolite catalysts to aid in tar cracking and oil upgrading.  Zeolite catalysts have defined pore structures and are commonly used in the petroleum industry.  However, manufacturing zeolites from the raw materials enables novel structured catalysts with metal additives to be synthesised.  The techniques and experience gained by Ella will enable researchers at Leeds to further investigate the use of the catalysts for the reduction of tars from the gasification of wastes and biomass and also for the upgrading of bio-oils derived from wastes and biomass.
